Google’s new AI Mode, currently an experimental feature in Search Labs, enhances the search experience by providing AI-generated, conversational responses to complex and exploratory questions.
How Google AI Mode Works:
- Advanced Reasoning: AI Mode utilizes a custom version of the Gemini 2.0 model, known for its advanced reasoning and thinking capabilities, to generate comprehensive answers.
- Query Fan-Out: It uses a “query fan-out” technique, issuing multiple related searches concurrently across subtopics and various data sources to gather a breadth of information.
- Information Synthesis: The gathered information is then brought together and presented in a user-friendly format, often with links to the original sources for further exploration.
- Multimodal Search: AI Mode supports searching with text, voice, or images, allowing users to interact with it in a variety of ways.
- Conversational Interface: It enables follow-up questions, creating a more interactive and conversational search experience.
In essence, AI Mode tries to emulate a conversation, understanding the context of your questions and providing detailed answers, while also making it easier to explore a topic in greater depth with the help of AI and web links.
Accessing AI Mode:
You can access AI Mode in a few ways:
- Go directly to google.com/aimode.
- Visit www.google.com, enter a question, and tap on the “AI Mode” tab below the search bar.
- In the Google app, you can find the “AI Mode” icon below the search bar on the home screen.
Prompt: “I want to conduct in-depth research on [insert niche or topic]. Break down this topic using a query fan-out approach by generating multiple sub-queries that explore different aspects, perspectives, and related concepts. Consider elements like historical background, practical applications, challenges, benefits, expert opinions, and emerging trends. Organize the sub-queries into logical categories to structure a comprehensive investigation.”
