My Honest Advice To Someone Who Wants To Make Money Online

Hey everyone,I want to share some honest advice on making money online. With over 25 years of experience, I’ve seen it all – the scams, the pitfalls, and the shortcuts. My goal is to help you navigate this landscape without falling into common traps.

Introduction

Making money online can be a daunting task, especially with the plethora of information available. My journey started over 25 years ago, and I’ve learned a lot along the way. My aim here is to provide you with actionable advice that can help you avoid common mistakes and focus on what truly works.

Key Concepts

No One-Size-Fits-All Approach

One of the first things you need to understand is that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to making money online. Different strategies work for different niches. For example, the approach you take for a niche like nails will be different from the approach you take for a niche like guitar or dropshipping. It’s crucial to understand your specific market and tailor your strategies accordingly.

Content Strategy

Content is king. Focus on keyword-driven results and use AI tools like ChatGPT to generate content ideas. For instance, if you’re focusing on renters insurance, you might want to create content around topics like “Protect Your Apartment: The Unexpected Dangers You Never Considered.”

Time Management

Time management is crucial. If you don’t manage your time, it will manage you. Focus on tasks that directly contribute to your goals and avoid spending excessive time on non-critical tasks. For example, don’t spend three days trying to make the font red on your website. Instead, focus on creating valuable content or engaging with your audience.

Monetization Strategies

There are several ways to monetize your online efforts:

  • Affiliate Marketing: Promote products and earn commissions.
  • Ad Revenue: Use platforms like AdSense or Mediavine.
  • Digital Products: Create and sell eBooks, courses, or software.
  • Service-Based Business: Offer services like content creation or SEO.

Practical Steps

Identify Your Niche

Choose a niche you are passionate about or have knowledge in. Research market demand and competition to ensure it’s a viable option. For example, if you love cooking, the cooking niche could be a great starting point.

Create Valuable Content

Use the content chop method to break down content into smaller, focused pieces. Provide value through guides, checklists, and how-to articles. For example, create a checklist for renters on what they need to know before moving into a new apartment.

Utilize AI Tools

AI tools can be a game-changer. Use them to generate content ideas and automate mundane tasks like data parsing and content creation. Tools like ChatGPT can help you come up with content ideas, while tools like Grammarly can ensure your content is grammatically correct.

Build an Audience

Use social media platforms like Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube to reach your audience. Engage with them through comments and direct interactions. Building a loyal audience is key to long-term success.

Monetize Your Traffic

Promote relevant affiliate offers and use ad networks to generate passive income. Create and sell your own digital products to diversify your income streams.

Advanced Strategies

Lead Generation

Create lead magnets to capture email addresses and build a mailing list for ongoing engagement. For example, offer a free eBook or checklist in exchange for an email address.

SEO and Traffic

Focus on long-tail keywords with lower competition. Use press releases and guest posts to gain visibility. For example, if you’re in the renters insurance niche, target keywords like “cheap renters insurance for apartments.”

Outsourcing

Delegate technical tasks if you lack expertise. Focus on marketing and content creation, which are more likely to drive revenue.

Common Pitfalls

Info Overload

Avoid getting overwhelmed by too much information. Focus on actionable steps and consistent execution. For example, don’t try to learn everything at once. Start with one strategy and master it before moving on to the next.

Misleading Claims

Be wary of exaggerated income claims. Focus on realistic and achievable goals. For example, don’t fall for claims that you can make $10,000 a month with no effort. Making money online requires hard work and dedication.

Time Mismanagement

Prioritize tasks that directly contribute to income. Avoid spending time on non-essential activities. For example, focus on creating content and engaging with your audience rather than tweaking your website design endlessly.

Q&A Highlights

OfferVault Rejection

A common question I get is about being rejected by OfferVault. It’s important to note that OfferVault is just a search engine for affiliate offers, not an affiliate network. You don’t get accepted or rejected by OfferVault itself.

Google AdSense

Another question is whether Google favors blogs with AdSense. The answer is no. Google does not favor blogs with AdSense over those without. Focus on creating high-quality content that provides value to your audience.

Technical Challenges

Many people struggle with the technical aspects of setting up a website. My advice is to outsource these tasks if you’re not good at them. Spending your time on technical tasks is a gross misuse of your time if you’re not skilled in that area. Focus on marketing and content creation instead.

Conclusion

Making money online is a journey, but with the right strategies and mindset, you can achieve your goals. Take deliberate action, stay consistent, and keep learning. The landscape of online business is constantly evolving, and staying updated with new tools and methods is crucial.Happy hustling!

  1. My question is about the outsourcer course. I bought it for the after-access because I live in Australia and couldn’t make the live. I have a few back and forths on a support ticket and haven’t gotten anywhere.

  2. I want to launch my offer for conversion rate optimization for Ecommerce shops, made on platforms like Shopify and BigCommerce. I’m considering 3 types of offers: consulting, digital products, productized service. Consulting looks optimal since it’s the fastest to launch and execute.

I have good case studies, but no website just yet, only the LinkedIn profile. I need to reach the audience of people, responsible for a Ecomm shop revenue.

What lead generation strategy would you recommend? LinkedIn newsletter? Something else?

I suspect that starting a blog is not a good option. The search volume for “conversion rate optimization ecommerce” is estimated only at 480 monthly in the USA. And the CPC estimated as quite high, at $21.9 for Google Ads.

  3. Hay Marcus, and good morning from the UK. So I have been trying to make money on line for around 4 years now. I have tried to sell on line products. I have had my own website trying to use affiliate marketin, but as you always say most people make no money on online. In January next year I will have paid my Mortgage off and am thinking of buying your coase where you get the website as well. My first question is will this help to try to see some profit on line. And the second question is do you keep checking up on the people who buy this from you. Because I am one of these people who thrive who is given a goal to meet and then someone catches up with them from time to time to make sure they are still on track. Thanks Ryan from the UK

  4. I have been following you for at least two years now, with little success, but that is not your fault; it’s mine. Mostly because I came into this hoping I could make $100/day to start, but I did not have any experience… NONE.

What has really thrown me off is the technical part. Specifically, putting the structure of a website together has been challenging (though I am learning).

I am working on my business and hope to soon be able to report better news. As for your content, I know no one else who shoots as straight as you. You are the best in my book. I haven’t always been able to catch all your videos or live calls, but I try, and I will continue to follow you as best as I can.

All I can say for advice is: remember that some people out there are trying their best because it HAS to be done, and many of them barely know how to turn their computer on. I know, I was once like that too. Thank goodness for the advent of ChatGPT. It really helped level the playing field. And thank God for people like you, or I would not stand a chance against all the sharks out there.

I have no questions for you. You keep repeating the same stuff just a little differently every time: find an audience, research good content ideas, create good content that your audience will LOVE, post said content on as many platforms as reasonable, drive traffic to a landing page, get emails, show everyone what you have to offer, keep making GOOD content, and always follow the data. Rinse and repeat.

  5. If you were a b2b tech writer, what business model would you use to monetize the domain OutsourceTechnicalWriting.com?

  6. Need easiest and fastest way to make money because short term memory loss erases my memory every morning. Thank God for you!

  7. IF you had to make 30k by the end of July. Which route would you take online? I’ve owned a tech site for years but haven’t monetized it.

  8. In what time frame it it reasonable to make 1K a month using your approach? If you have say 3 hours a day?

  9. I would like you to go over reaching $100-$150/day as a first goal – not pie in the sky money but just to get people to that stage to replace an income and scale from there.

Please let me know if I’m on the right track with an article like this, frugalhoney.com/40000-a-year-is-how-much-an-hour, so I can continue making other articles the same way. I’m using keywords to get the traffic with no CPC to flip the visitors to budgeting apps, resume builders and job offers. I’m using your video from a year ago, ChatGPT AI Content: Effortless $100 Daily!, to create the content. My domain has a 19 DA with 1,000 links.

Please talk about Simple Sites Big Profits and how it can help to get things moving faster as I feel I need the extra help.
Lastly regarding the High Ticket Niche program – Do you also pick and set up the offers as well?

  10. Hello Sir ? how are you? I am an African man, but I am very poor, and to put an end to various family problems, I thought of setting up an agricultural and livestock project, but I does not have the money to do it, which is why I am asking you for financial help to successfully carry out my project.

  11. Hello Marcus,
I have spent much time the past 2 years to write a book about Donald Trump, trying to show the truth as much as possible. Title: “Donald Trump in the Footsteps of Adolf Hitler. A European’s Perspective.” The book will please Democrats as much as it will displease Trump-followers I guess! My question: The book will be launched via Amazon later this month. Do you have any suggestions of other ways to promote the book? Unfortunately I will not be able to attend your live sending, but will check into the replay ASAP afterwards. Hoping for some good advice, and good luck to you for another excellent video chat with your audience! 🙂

  12. I need a mentor. I have knowledge in many different digital/online marketing areas but I can’t seem to get rolling with passive income. If I could make $5000/mo or more, it would help my financial strain. I’m living paycheck paycheck and can’t seem to get ahead. If I would see any glimpse of making money through affiliate marketing, I would be ecstatic!
    Thanks,
    Nick

  13. Hello Marcus,

First, thank you for all the valuable content you’ve shared online! I normally just give a thumbs up, but I wanted to engage this time.

I am planning to sign up for a high-ticket niche once I make my first $1,500. I am currently launching three websites, and after watching your content for the last 18 months, I feel like I have a good grasp of the process.

    My two main roadblocks are:

    1. Signing up for multiple affiliate networks and products is very time-consuming. It’s not particularly hard,
but waiting to hear back and managing each application is more challenging than expected. For some
products, the sign-up process is more involved than anticipated, and finding the “right” offer with the
best payment terms is quite time-consuming. Is there a shortcut or something I am missing? I haven’t
seen you cover this in your free content yet.

    2. Setting up separate social media accounts for each website has been tricky. Facebook blocked my
new accounts within minutes, even before I posted any content. Even validating different social media
accounts with the same phone number is proving difficult. Do you have any tips or tricks to navigate
    this?

Thank you again for all your help and content!

  14. Is it possible to make a living JUST by making multiple blogs/websites and flipping those websites after getting them a lot of traffic? What’s the best way of promoting my site without the need of posting videos of myself promoting them to effectively sell off my site (or earn affilitate or ad revenue) as fast as possible?

  15. Good morning Marcus!! I’ve got so many questions I get overwhelmed trying to decide which ONE to ask you. I’ve been watching YouTube videos about how to make money online since 2021 and here I am, 2024, still watching YouTube videos on how to make money online so your statement you say is for sure true “most people will never make any money online”. But if I were to narrow things down I guess my biggest hurtles are…what is the best platform to post the content? I am very much interested in affiliate marketing & POD. Is FB, Pinterest or TikTok better than having my own website? And how do I drive traffic to my website if that’s the route I took? It would serve me well to have a mentor!! Sorry that was more than one question. Thank you so very much for all of your videos and FREE tools. I appreciate you!! ☺️

  16. I’m just stuck on exactly how to get an actual blog going. I’m in the manifestation niche and I want to blow it out of the water! I know this is probably seems very rudimentary but it seems to be my major snag.
I understand everything that you teach. But for some reason I just can’t grasp this one small concept. And I’m sure that I am overthinking it.
I would appreciate any help that you can possibly give me. And I appreciate you, Marcus.

  17. This is Richard Monahan aka Rit Man from StoreRun.com.. I have been following you for about a year. I have done a call with you and I dont feel like you understood my intent. My website DID suck at the time that you checked it out, it has since been re-done, and I also purchased an app template which is ready to be released. What I am doing is making an app for drivers of gig apps to list other services that they are willing to do such as dump runs, mechanic coming out to a broken vehicle, or long distance runs. I am changing the way that delivery apps work; I am making it in the customer and drivers’ best interest. I am offering this service free of charge to the customers and drivers with the intent that drivers can establish repeat customers, and customers can pay for the cost of good(not on the expensive delivery side of the app, they pay through the regular app pricing through the vendors POS and compensate the drivers directly. I am sick of these giant corporate apps fleecing everyone and that money may as well go up in smoke because it is never seen again. I plan to make my money from selling flat rate ads vs: the 30% commission that they take from vendors. The plan is to make a decent living for myself, and let customers pay for what they ordered, and compensate the drivers direct so there is no middle man.

The reason I want you on my team is that you are an affiliate marketer, and I would like to find affiliates to sell that advertising and compensate them with a 20% commission. This does not make good business sense, as it limits my earning ability to earn, but I am totally ok with that because I dont have the huge overhead they have.

My app is ready as far as customers can log in, see the drivers in their area, choose one and contact them directly through the app, but using sms and calls direct to their number – again; no middle man. Drivers can list additional services on top of the usual ride and pick up goods from the store.

I am a developer who has written software to manage vacation rental bookings, I wrote the calendar and booking engine for a mid sized Vacation Rental company. I am NOT one of those people who will not make a penny from the internet, I HAVE made a million dollars over my 30 year career, and I am ready to step it up. I have reached out many times and I dont seem to be getting through to you. My app is going to be released on Google Play and Apple App Store this month and I would like to get you on board with helping to promote my affiliate program. I am not looking for you to train me like you do your students, I want to hire you to help see my vision through. Do you get it yet? I am GOING to make it regardless, but with your help we could both do quite well, sooner rather than later.

I hope this helps you understand where I am at and get you excited because I AM going to disrupt the corporate greed that is prominent in this world. I truly want to HELP people not struggle and your skills could really make a huge impact. I will be on the call, I hope you start to understand what I am doing and the fact that it is truly viable. Thanks, I appreciate the fact that you seem to have the same vision of helping people and want to help me help MORE people.

  18. Hi Marcus,

I am using ahrefs and thehoth to in find low traffic and targeted keywords.

Only challenge so far for is getting traffic and conversions. Can you review my site please and see what/where the gap is and what possible opportunities I am missing out on?

    The site is TopSoftwareTools.com

    All the best,
    Shuaib from UK

  19. I would like to know how to incorporate the Bible Niche into my current niche of answers on Heaven.com. My goal is to retire in 5 years and I’d like this to at least work into a good income to supplement my retirement income. What can I do right now to generate income to cover the cost of BHN, tools and a little income until the site takes off. I will miss the live, working today.

    Thanks for all you do.
    Stu
