As you can see, I like books. You can learn pretty much anything you want within the pages of a book. Now, this video is going to be twofold. First, I’m going to show you five places that you can get paid thousands of dollars, just for reading books into a microphone. And second, I’m going to show you a killer way to change your life just by using books. But before we get started, I want you to post your favorite book as a comment below.
Now, this first part is going to be a little personal. There were two times in my life that things weren’t going very good, and it was actually a very dark time. Both of those times, I used books to get out of my rut. The first time was when I was 21 years old. I didn’t know how to run a business. I didn’t know how to make money. I didn’t have a stable job, and my girlfriend and I had a baby due in a few months. So I had to figure out something fast. Now, I decided to turn to the pages of books to figure out exactly how to make a living online and be able to be my own boss. So I devoured books like crazy, and was able to get out of that rut and make a business that has made over eight figures for myself and my family.
The second time I used books to change my life was when I was 34 years old, and I struggled from a drinking problem. I turned to books to learn exactly what was going on in my mind, in my body, and figure out what was going on that made me drink and why I couldn’t stop. I devoured books like crazy, and I’m happy to report that I’m actually over six years sober today from the knowledge that I continue to put into my brain from books and audiobooks that I consume. And if my stories alone aren’t enough to teach you the power of books, take a look at guys like Tony Robbins. This guy literally makes hundreds of millions of dollars a year. And if you look at his story, when he was a teenager, he actually started reading like 700 books a year. And while you don’t have to read that many, there’s plenty of other people that read books and make a good living because of what they learn. PewDiePie actually does book reviews on his channel.
He’s one of the most successful YouTubers ever, and some of his videos are simply book reviews. You can also see people like Bill Gates, who loves to read, Oprah Winfrey, who has her own book club, and more. The power of what you can learn in a book is simply underrated, to put it lightly. And the fact of the matter is reading can change your life if you’re consistent and deliberate about what you put into your mind. Now, let’s go ahead and take a look at the five places that’ll pay you thousands of dollars simply for reading books into a microphone. First of all, we have Fiverr. Fiverr is a very popular site. And if you go there and search for audiobook, you can actually see there’s lots of people that are willing to narrate or read an audio book and send the files in.
All you need to have is a decent microphone. I got this one for about $40, and it does great quality as you can hear from this video. I’ll put a link to this microphone in the description below so you can pick one up fairly cheap. And if we take a look at some of these people on Fiverr, we could see that for 5,000 words, he’s charging $150. Now, the average audiobook is about 50 to 100,000 words, which means you’re going to get paid a lot more for narrating, a bigger book. And while Fiverr is good, it can be difficult to get work if you’re not proactively seeking new customers. So if you want a place that’ll just pay you outright and you just audition for them, all you have to do is go to ACX, which is an Amazon-owned company, where you can actually apply to read books online.
You simply read a small portion. They choose from the people that are available, and if you get the job, you can get paid for each recorded hour you spend. And this can add up really fast. And there’s actually two ways you could get paid using ACX. The first way is just by the hour, and the second way is royalty-based, which means you do the audio recording, you get a small upfront fee, and then you get paid over and over as the book is actually ordered on Audible and other platforms. This can provide a great recurring income stream simply by reading books into a microphone. You can go here, and you can see exactly what these people are willing to pay. For example, this one is a royalty share, and it’s 50,000 words. And this one here will actually pay you $200 to $400 per recorded hour. Now keep in mind, that’s the recorded hour, not the total time the project takes to create. Usually it’ll be pretty similar, but I think it’s good to clarify so you know exactly what you’re up against. And in order to sign up, you simply click sign up now, and you log in with your Amazon account and you’re good to go. You can literally start getting paid right now. The third site we want to look at is voices.com. This is where you can actually go and do voice talent or voice acting or reading audio books, and you can get paid there as well. And the way it works is simple.
You can simply go over to the marketplace like this. You can look at the jobs and apply with your sample voice recording. And when you get selected, you read the book and get paid. Voices.com has over 200,000 different voice actors, so it can be kind of daunting and kind of busy. And a lot of these sites can run into the same problem where you have so many different voice actors applying for the same jobs, which is why you’re going to like my last tip, where I’m going to show you how to do this and work for yourself and make even more money on a recurring basis.
The fourth place that you can go and get paid to read books online is Brilliance Audio. Brilliance Audio is also an Amazon-owned company, so ACX is probably going to do better, but this is another one to have in your wheelhouse so that you can get paid for reading books as well. Again, the more irons you have in the fire, the more jobs you’re going to get and the more money you’re going to make. And now, drum roll, please. Let’s dive into my favorite way to make money online, simply reading books into a microphone. And before I show you exactly how it works, I wanted to show you some of the things people are searching for. Over here on the Ahrefs keyword tool, we can see that the word novel is looked up over 90,000 times a month. We also got lots of different types of novels people are looking for.
We can see that people are looking up the best books in different types of genres. I do this all the time when I’m looking for audiobooks to listen to. We can see people are looking for favorite books, Oprah’s favorite books, Bill Gates’ favorite books, Obama’s favorite books, Elon Musk’s favorite books, and on and on we go. We can also see hundreds of thousands of people a month looking for book reviews. This is important. Remember this for later. We have specific stuff like people looking up certain novels about a certain topic, and tens of thousands of people looking up Oprah’s Book Club. So as you can see, lots of people are interested in books and learning about books and book reviews and book summaries and all kinds of things like that, which is why number five is my favorite way to make money online by reading books.
And that is quite simply to start a YouTube channel where you talk about the books you read. And the reason I like this method so much is actually twofold. One, you get to choose the books that you want to read, which is going to expand your mental capacity and your learning so that you can actually use that for other things and change your life. And two, you can make a lot more money, and you don’t have to read the entire book on the microphone. You could simply record a summary or overview of what you learned in the book. I’ve done this several times on my YouTube channel here, and gotten lots of views for various different topics. I’ve also done this on my sobriety channel and banked quite a few views over there as well. And to show you the power of this, I want to take a look at this 24 minute video that I did, where I made $74 last month alone.
Now, if you were to look at this video, it’s about 24 minutes long, which would equate to about 3,600 minutes, which would mean that I’d make $150 on one of the paid sites by reading that book. However, instead I did a summary, which means that I am now paid $74 over the month, and then I get recurring revenue every single day. You could see that some days I earned $4, some days $1, some days as much as $8 or $9 or more, and it goes on and on and on. So if I continue at this rate, I’m poised to make about $1000 a year on this one video, where I would get only $150 here. And after the year’s over, I could potentially still be earning money. Take a look at this other one I did here, where we’re making about $108 a month.
Obviously, these are lower ones. I have some make a lot more, but you could see here that we’ve had some days where it makes $6, $7, $5, some lower days that are like $1.44, which isn’t much, but it starts to add up. And you could see that over time for that same time period, I made about $1,400 off of some various videos that I created. And you could do this with book reviews and summaries and teaching people what you learned. And since I’m a small YouTube channel, you can actually make a lot more. There are several people in this niche making millions of dollars a year just using monetization and some other methods I’m about to show you. And if you think about it, if each of my book reviews generates $3 a day, and I do 50 of them, that’s an income of about $4,500 a month.
Of course, some of them are going to do a lot better and make a lot more, but the key is it adds up very fast. And if you could put these little recurring incomes into your pocket each and every month, you can get some really big results if you’re consistent. And if we look on YouTube for book review, we can actually see there’s lots of people doing this exact same thing. Hey, look. Here’s that PewDiePie guy I was talking about earlier. The Book Leo, readwithcindy, and on and on we go. These people are making money talking about books, which I think is pretty cool. And if you take a look at the Social Blade for some of these YouTubers, you could see that they’re making upwards of $3,000 a month or more, and I usually find that Social Blade is on the low side.
On my channel, it’s only showing about 10% of what I actually earn through monetization. We can see Elliot Brooks is getting about 15,000 views a day, and earning $1,800 a month or more just on monetization. And in just a little bit, I’m going to teach you how to make even more money on top of that. Some of the top videos in this genre are the 15 Books Bill Gates Thinks Everyone Should Read, 6 Books That Completely Changed My Life, some kind of AntiMLM money book, Think & Grow Rich book review, PewDiePie’s book reviews, and on and on we go. Here’s another one from paperbackdreams, who’s averaging about 20,000 views a day and making $2,300 a month or more just on monetization. Here’s the stats for Book Leo, readwithcindy, and more. And there’s actually quite a few ways that you can make even more money than just using monetization.
For example, we could see in PewDiePie’s description of his video he actually links to his Amazon affiliate links so that he gets paid when you pick up one of the books that he recommends. And while Amazon doesn’t pay a big percentage per order, you actually get paid on everything that’s in their shopping cart at the time they order after clicking your link, and that can add up really quick. You can also get paid anywhere from $5 to $10 or more for someone getting a free Audible account. You could promote things based on the book. Like if I’m reviewing Tony Robbins’ book, I can use an affiliate link to his big courses and seminars and get paid a whole bunch of money for selling those. And of course, one of the easiest ways is to watch the type of content you create.
Based on how ads and monetization work, I’m going to make a whole lot more money if I review books about credit and investment than I am doing a Joel Osteen book review, or something like that. So your content really does matter, and you want to start to think big picture about, what do these people really want? How can I build a following that’s going to listen to the books that I review, whether I’m in a different genre, whether I’m in a different category? Whatever it is, how can I get those people in? And if you look at your keywords and you look at what other people are doing and look at popular books, you can actually start reading, improving your life, making money, and building a business around something you love. This is something that’s very personal to me. I love reading books. I love sharing what I learn, and I also love to make money, which is pretty cool.
