How to Make Money Online

Welcome to this special training for those who want to make money online, and don’t mind the work.

We’re going to show you exactly what you need to do to get started.

A lot of people talk about just setting up a website and making money. That can happen, but you need to learn exactly what you need to do. You have to focus on the things that get you money.

First, let me tell you about how I got started in this business. Back in 1999, I was first starting to learn how to make money.

I had a magic business, and I was trying to make this work. But I was struggling. I had an ad in a magic magazine, and it was bringing in a little under $1,000 a month in shows.

One day, I stumbled across a way to change the wording of my magic ad.

I changed the ad, and boom. Changing the words in the ad was the difference between $900 a month, minus the $170 I used to pay for the ad, and around $4,000 a month. The only difference was words on paper.

I knew I wanted to learn about these words, because I thought they were the key to making money online, offline, everywhere.

And I have to tell you, 20 years later, that they are definitely the key after all.

I started my business in a rundown mobile home. It was a total dump. It was so bad that two years after I moved out, it was bulldozed. It wasn’t even fit to live in. There were a bunch of drug addicts living there.

I bought a computer from the computer place I worked for. It cost $450, because I couldn’t afford a fancy computer.

I remember sitting there, buying my first domain name. It was PCMoneyMaking.com. My dad, my brother, and his friends had come into the home, and they were talking to me. Everyone was laughing about how it was never going to work.

They said, “Dude, you’re never going to make money online. It’s a fad. It’s a phase. It’s not going to work.”

And from this little mobile home, with that I computer I bought for a few hundred dollars, I actually started a multi-million-dollar business.

How did I do it? What was the secret to making this work?

People would ask me, “Marcus, what’s your backup plan? What if this doesn’t work?”

The truth is that there was no backup plan. It was going to work. And the way I knew it would work was in a very simple way. It was based on logic, and it goes like this.

If I had a lawn mower, and I knew how to mow lawns, I could literally go to houses and knock on peoples’ doors, and ask them if they wanted me to take care of their lawns for $100 a month. I could get people to agree, and I would make money from that. Very cool.

There’s no way that wouldn’t work. The only way it wouldn’t work is if I didn’t have a lawn mower, or if my lawn mower was broken, or if I didn’t knock on doors. That’s the only way this wouldn’t work, because people need their lawns mowed, and they’ll pay money for it.

I know, because I pay my lawn guy every month.

Now, when it comes to the internet, it’s the same thing. There are people online, and they’re buying things right now. There are four to five million people every minute searching Google, and they’re searching for things to buy, searching for solutions, searching for entertainment, all kinds of things, every minute.

When it comes to internet marketing, it works. It absolutely has to work. There are no if, ands, or buts about it.

But what happens is this. People try to start their lawn care business, and they think they need a branded truck. They think they need business cards. They think they need a website.

But you don’t need all of those things to get started. You just need to start knocking on doors.

I remember when I was kid. I was 12 years old, and my brother was 13. We had just moved to California, and we wanted to make money for skateboards. Back then, a good skateboard cost around $150.

We wanted these skateboards, but unlike everyone else in the neighborhood, our parents didn’t buy us everything.

So I said to my brother, “Let’s start a car wash business.”

We got a little wagon we had in the garage, and some soap, and some ShamWows. And we went around and knocked on doors.

I said to people, “Hey, your car looks kind of dirty. Do you want me to wash it for $10?”

And in one week, these two kids that had no business experience, no business cards, no website, no nothing, went out there and made about $300. Which was enough to get our skateboards.

It was pretty cool. It was hard work, but we still did it.

The idea here is that everything else is an excuse. A lot of you might have excuses in your mind that it’s too hard to do this business. The traffic is too hard, the internet is too crowded, people aren’t searching for what you have to sell.

But the fact of the matter is that you go where the market is.

If you were in Arizona and you had a lawn care business, you might have a hard time, because a lot of the lawns there are full of rocks, since it’s in the desert. But instead, maybe you could make some kind of rock cleaning business.

You have to be flexible and go with it. You have to make it work.

Luckily, where you’re at, you have the tools to make it work. You have internet access. (I know that, because otherwise you wouldn’t have access to this report.) You have people that are searching, and you have people that are buying stuff. All you have to do is link them together.

Pillars of Making Money Online

There are basically two pillars of making money online. There are only two things that really matter in internet marketing: getting visitors and converting visitors.

Getting Visitors

Number one is getting visitors. This is the first part of the puzzle.

There are lots of different ways that you can get visitors. Here are some examples:

  • SEO
  • YouTube
  • Pay-per-click
  • Blogging
  • Press releases
  • Forum engagement
  • Social media
  • Banner ads
  • Direct content
  • Media buys
  • Ads

You don’t need to have all of these. But these are some of the ways you can get started getting visitors.

If you want to get more money with your lawn care business, what are you going to do? You would need to knock on more doors to get more customers. You would need to get more visitors.

This is true for any and all niches out there. Your niche might be people who are looking for:

  • Lawn care
  • Ways to save money
  • Travel plans
  • Sample letters for foreclosure
  • Tax letters
  • Ways to save on taxes
  • How to fill out forms
  • How to plant tomatoes
  • How to take care of ferrets

Figure out your niche, whatever it is. Once you have your niche, you have to get your visitors.

Converting Visitors

Then you’re going to convert traffic.

Converting traffic is about getting those visitors to buy.

There are lots of ways to convert visitors. Here are some examples:

  • CMS (content management systems)
  • Opt ins
  • Buy buttons
  • Sales videos
  • Email marketing
  • Follow up
  • Conversion tools
  • Live chat
  • Content
  • Affiliate offers
  • AdSense

Some examples of content management systems could be WordPress, ClickFunnels, or Buiderall. You could even just use HTML for your sites.

Now, I like to use WordPress. It’s very easy, very flexible, and we give you lots of tools to work with it.

Lots of people get hung up on all the plugins and tools everything. But don’t. Just go with it.

You’re basically just knocking on doors to get people to mow their lawn. That’s what you’re doing. You’re basically setting up a website so that people do what you want. Anything else is busy work.

Don’t be the guy getting the truck with the logo, and getting the business cards, and getting the flyers, unless you know what you’re doing. Very important. Always go with the most effective, direct way you can reach your customer.

If your customer is on YouTube, go to YouTube. Make a channel and sell them. With the content management system, most people overthink this. They get too convoluted with it. They overwork it, they spend days on days building a website. When realistically, we should only be spending about three hours setting up the bulk of our website.

The rest is just adding content and doing stuff. It’s not that hard to do. If you’re spending more than three hours setting up the shell of your website, you’re kind of doing it wrong.

The idea is the message, not the media. What is your message going to be? Focus on that, because your message is what’s going to convert the traffic.

And these are the things that you need to be focusing on.

We have to understand how it works and how it all fits together. So let’s map this out.

First of all, what you’re going to have is your niche market. This is anything, but it’s going to tell you about the people.

Now, on the internet, we actually use niche marketing by finding people using the Google AdWords tool. So I might be able to go into the Google AdWords tool and find out that people are looking for “hardship letters for mortgages”, as an example.

So you could look at this and think, well, what do they want?

With a hardship letter for a mortgage, it’s basically a guy who has a hardship. He’s having trouble making his payments, or maybe he’s behind on his payments. What does he want to do? Well, he wants to keep his house.

So we have our market, we know what they want.

Now for our first pillar, getting visitors. How are we going to get them?

With the “hardship letter for mortgage” people, I could probably do some YouTube stuff. I could probably get paid traffic pretty cheap. I could probably go to forums and get free traffic. I could probably do some SEO to get ranked on the search engines.

These are the things that you need to work on. If you’re not working on this, you’re just doing busy work that doesn’t pay the bills.

Number two, converting visitors.

What you could do here is set up a little WordPress blog. And you could get an optin form, because you’d want people to opt in to get their hardship letter. And you’d probably have some affiliate offers. They could be something like “refinance”, or “stop foreclosure program”, or something like “check your credit” (because missing payments screws up your credit.) It could be something like “credit consolidation”.

So now you have your offers. How are you going to make money with them?

All you would have to do is set up my simple page. Maybe you have a video, I could make one or I could outsource it for $50 or $100 or something like that.

And the video might say, “Are you struggling? Are you behind on your payments? Get my free stop foreclosure guide. To get it, you’re going to put your name and email in the box, and then you’re going to hit submit.”

So there’s your opt-in page. Then all I have to do is make a simple page after the opt in that says, “Here’s the top ways to stop foreclosure.” Please check your email. I sent you the hardship letter samples that you could use and fill out and send to the bank.” (Or whoever it is.)

You don’t need to be spending a million years designing a logo, because that’s not what sells. Actually, studies show that conversions are 30% better if you don’t have a logo. Pretty interesting, right?

So there’s how it works. If you’re not spending your day either getting visitors or converting visitors, then you’re not going to be making money. If you spend your day checking Facebook and looking at ads, and trying to find new ways to make money, you’re not going to make money.

Even if you’re doing Shopify, you have to get visitors and convert visitors. eBay, you have to get visitors, you have to make an ad that stands out, convert visitors. You need an offer that converts. Pretty simple. Amazon, you got to get visitors. You got to get high up in the rankings, or do sponsored things converting. You have to have a good sales message on your Amazon listing. Blogging, get visitors. You have to get visitors, however you’re going to get them, depending on your niche. And you have to convert the visitors.

If you’re not doing one of these two things, you are not focused on the right stuff.

How many of you are guilty of doing the wrong things?

With this “hardship letter for mortgage” market, you ought to be able to convert these people. This should work if you do it, and you adapt, and you figure out what people want. You ought to be able to build a mailing list, and you ought to be able to get people to do affiliate offers.

If you go to Google and search for “sample hardship letter”, you’ll find there are little or no advertisers bidding for that term. I can get in there and get this traffic for probably 10 cents a click or less. Or I could do YouTube traffic and get it for free.

I’ve done this in many other markets, and I do it in a lot of markets today. The key is being able to understand what they want, and focusing on what works. But if you get caught up in the busy work and the junk, it’s not going to work.

Your site isn’t going to be perfect off the get-go. I mean, make sure you have disclaimers, and you’re not doing anything shady. But other than that, you should be focusing on the two things, getting visitors or converting the traffic.

And when you look at this, you see how it all fits together.

What’s stopping you from doing this?

The only thing that is stopping you is excuses. The fact of the matter is that you have customers, and you have stuff to give them. Go sell it. Very important.

Copy and Paste Ads to Profit $100 – $500 a Day

Let’s talk about what it takes to make up to $500 a day or more online by cutting and pasting your ads on the internet.

We’re going to show you a method that everyone else is teaching, and then we’re going to show you a better method (and why it works).

First, some warnings for you.

A lot of videos out there have misinformation and things that could get you in trouble. And the last thing you want is to not get paid, or worse, get in trouble for not having the right disclaimers or something like that. Most people are teaching methods that only leads to trouble.

Don’t Go for Shitty Web Traffic

One warning is about shitty web traffic.

Some videos will tell you that you should go over to places like FreeAdForum.com and different things like that.

But if you do something investigating, you’re going to find out that FreeAdForum isn’t always the best.

You want good, quality traffic. You want people who can actually afford and buy your product, and you want people who actually want your product. You want people who are actually coming to the site to look at the ads, not just coming to post them.

A place like FreeAdForum has a ton of ads and not a lot of traffic, and the traffic is mostly coming from places like India and Egypt and others like that. And usually those countries can’t really afford your offers, so it’s not really that good of traffic.

Another website people talk about is FreeGlobalClassifiedAds.com. This has a really low ranking, and most of its traffic comes from India and Nigeria. A lot of people know that these aren’t the best places to get traffic. They can’t really afford a lot of the stuff, and they’re not really into it.

This all leads me to believe that most of these sites are automated places that put out ads, or they’re people trying to spam with ads, which mean they’re not really legitimate places to get ads at all.

Have a Good Disclaimer

Another warning for you is that you need to have a good disclaimer.

You need to tell people that you’re an affiliate for the offer you’re promoting, that you get compensated when people buy something. If you don’t say that, you could get in trouble.

Obviously, my review of a product is going to be different if I’m getting paid to review it, versus if I just like it or something like that.

Besides having a disclaimer for being an affiliate, you also need disclaimers for any claims you make.

If I saw I make $1 million on the internet, I need to back it up, and say that most people don’t make that, but here’s what you can make.

Here is a sample disclaimer:

“The results are not typical, implied, or guaranteed. Average user results may vary”.

Or,

“This product not intended to treat or cure anything whatsoever. Talk to your doctor before you do anything.”

Promote Legitimate Offers

You also need to promote legitimate offers.

You have to have a good, legitimate offer, otherwise you’re on the line for it as someone promoting it.

Follow Terms on All Traffic Sites

You need to follow the terms on all of your traffic sites.

One example is using Craigslist. Craigslist is a good place to get traffic.

However, you have to follow the terms and conditions of their site. They don’t want people spamming it, they don’t want it filled with just a bunch of affiliate links. So you have to do it a little bit differently.

All of these things can be done legitimately. Usually when you o them legit, it takes a little but more time, but you make a lot more money in the long run. And you don’t’ have people banging on your door, saying that you’re in trouble.

Find an Offer

You can find an offer in many different places. You can go to ClickBank, and you can find offers for anything.

You can find an offer for making money, if you want to teach people how to make money, or you can find people looking for fad diets, like a belly fat diet or something like that.

And the offers will tell you how much money you’re going to make. If you want to promote them, you can just get a link from ClickBank, and you can copy and paste it wherever you’d like to advertise.

Another place you can go to get offers is Max Bounty. When you’re finding offers, you want something generic and high-converting.

Find People Who Might Want It

Next, you have to find the people who might want your offer.

Now, you can do like the other guys are saying, and you can go to FreeAdForum or places that get a bunch of traffic that probably isn’t going to convert what you want.

A Better Way: Forum Marketing

This is how a bunch of people teach you. But let’s talk about an even better way to do it.

Instead of doing what everyone else teaches, you can actually look up forums of people who are actively looking for answers based on what we want, instead of just free classifieds and things like that which are spam havens and just a bunch of junk.

You can actually go to Google and search for a forum that’s related to the offer you’re promoting. So if you’re promoting an anxiety offer, you could search for “anxiety forum”. If you’re doing an acne offer, you could search for “acne forum.”

There are literally forums for every offer you can think of.

When you go to a forum, all you have to do is provide some kind of tip. Maybe you could answer someone’s question. And you’re going to make an ad for your offer. Then, in your footer is where you’re going to copy and paste your ad.

You can do a direct link, but remember that you need a direct link and everything like that.

And here’s a pro tip. Instead of direct linking, you can get a domain and do a redirect. So if your offer is for something to do with anxiety, you can get a domain such as anxietyguide.com, and you can redirect it to wherever you want your affiliate link to be. Or it could be its own website.

If you set up your own website, you want to consider allowing your visitors to opt in. I would recommend doing this, because you’re going to make a lot more money in the long run.

But I understand if you want to just do something super lazy, super cheap, and super easy. You could just set up a page with a redirect, or you can make a splash page that says “click her to get the offer” or whatever it may be.

If you want to learn more about this stuff, check out www.AffiliateMarketingDude.com and check out my brand new affiliate marketing toolbar. It’s awesome. It has all the tools you need to start learning how to make money online.

Go From Beginner to $1,000 a Month: Bonus Fast Profit Tips

What would I do if my back was against the wall and I had to make $1,000 a month, each and every month within the next 30 days?

Well, today, I’m going to show you exactly what I would do, and walk you through everything so you know what you need to do.

Now, I got to tell you, this is a business. It takes some work. There’s some little tweaks that need to be made. Not every niche, not every customer, not every affiliate offer is the same.

What you can expect is real-world information on how I run my blogging business and how I’ve helped many other people do the same. I’ve helped lots of people get financially free over the years by learning this simple stuff.

I think if you follow along and you really dive in, you should be able to get some results.

Bonus Fast Profit Tips

We know you want to make fast profit. We know you want to get to that $1,000 a month or more.

You can do that a lot more if you really focus, and if the niche has the potential.

Here are some steps you can take to make some profit fast.

Solo Ads and Direct Banners

Run some solo ads and get some direct banners.

Direct Email Questions and Answers

What do I mean by that? On your thank you page on your site, you might usually try to put offers on it. Instead of doing that and selling directly from it, use it to ask your audience a question.

You could say, “What’s your number one question about weight loss?” Or “What’s your number one question about computers?” Or whatever your niche is about.

Whatever their question is, you can answer it in another email, and with it you can send an affiliate link. Boom!

Live Chat and/or Phone Number

You could do live chat or a phone number. Chat with your audience.

You really want to make money? Sit there and chat all day and sell stuff. People will come onto your live chat and they’ll say, “Hey, I’ve been trying to do x. What do you think is good?”

Then you can tell them to click here, get this, or whatever it may be. Make sure you put a disclaimer with it. For example, if you’re recommending a weight loss product, make sure you tell them that you’re not a doctor, and you’re an affiliate.

If your niche is making money online, maybe someone will tell you on live chat, “I’ve been trying to start a blog. What do I do?” You can tell them, “First, go get web hosting.” Then they’ll go do that, and boom, you could get an instant $100 commission.

Run Webinars and Trainings

Webinars and trainings can make real profits.

If your niche is weight loss, you could get a bunch of people who want to lose weight, and make a little webinar with little slides, and sell stuff at the end. It’s not that hard.

Or you could do a training, or hire someone to do it, or get other people that you’re an affiliate of to do a webinar.

I got people all the time who do webinars for my list. I don’t even have to show up. I just tell them, “Dude, here’s the code for the webinar. Let me know how much we make.”

These bonus steps are very important, and they can really give your business a boost.

Direct Response Marketing Glossary

 Ad

An ad is anything designed at getting people to your offer or website.

This could be anything like a Facebook post, AdWords ad, or banner ad. It could be a solo email ad, a text ad, any kind of ad out there that’s going to get people to your website. So the goal of your ad is to do just that—get people to your site. The ad is the first thing that people see.

When you’re dealing with advertising and marketing online, remember that your goal is to get people to your offer or website, not necessarily to sell. You’re not really trying to sell in your ad, so don’t try to just blatantly sell. We want as many people as possible to come to our site, and then it’s our website’s job to do the selling.

Affiliate

An affiliate is someone selling on behalf of another company.

This is like a salesman, but instead, you’re getting paid from an affiliate company.

The cool thing is that you get something called an affiliate link. This tracks whatever it is you’re selling, so it tracks clicks and sales.

When you’re dealing with affiliate marketing, your job is to get your ad to get people to your website, where you pre-sell affiliate offers.

Why do I say pre-sale? Well, as an affiliate, you’re not really doing the sale, because the order form is not hosted on your site. You can’t really sell it directly. (That would be dropshipping, or selling your own products.) So as an affiliate, we’re selling on behalf of another company.

Now, the cool thing about affiliate marketing is you can get paid per click, per lead, per sale, per trial, per call, or per download.

We can get paid all these different ways as an affiliate marketer. But we have to remember that as an affiliate, we are not directly selling the offer. We have to pre-sell it.

Acquisition cost

Acquisition cost is how much it costs to get a customer.

This is the most important number in marketing. How much does it cost you to get a new customer?

Whether it’s a $1 customer or a $50,000 customer, how much is it costing you to generate that person?

If you’re an affiliate, you can think replace “acquisition” with “lead”. How much does it cost to get a lead or a customer? Because as an affiliate marketer or influencer, the value or money you make is going to be determined by the leads you collect.

The more leads you have, the more you nurture them, the more they get to know, like, and trust your information. The more value it’s going to be.

Now, you can do what’s called click flopping, which is basically setting up a landing page, putting affiliate offers on it, and sending traffic to it. You make money, and don’t really build a mailing list or anything like that.

Click flopping is direct to offers, without any lead capture. So you’re not really capturing a lead, you’re not really building an audience or anything like that.

As a marketer, you need to know your acquisition cost. You need to know how much you’re making for each individual lead or sale. How much is it costing you to get that sale?

Advertorial

An advertorial is an advertisement that is designed to look like content.

This is one that I really like. This is important, and a lot of people miss out on this. This is where advertisements are designed to look like content.

They look like something you want to read. They look like part of the magazine, or part of the website. And then at the end, it might have a little call to action.

As an affiliate marketer, if you don’t learn the skills of advertorials, you’re going to have a hard time making money. Why? Because people go to the internet for content.

Not to read your ads. So our job is to make advertorials and ask ourselves how we can make our ads look like content.

Advocate / Reporter / Reviewer

This is the positioning of who you are and how you’re writing your site.

Who are you when you write your site? You might be an advocate, the guy on behalf of your reader saying that you tested out these products, and here’s what you learned.

Or you might be a reporter, saying you found out some information and inviting people to read a report that you made about it.

Or you might be a reviewer. A lot of times, people just make review sites and make lots of money doing it, because they do it in a cool way. They’re like, “Hey, I’m just trying to help you out.”

This is about your writing and content style.

When you think about this, you have to ask how you are going to help people. How are you going to give them something of value, something that they’re going to want to read?

The goal of your site is to get people to read. If they’re not reading your stuff, if they’re not listening to your videos, if they’re not doing stuff, then it’s not really going to work.

If people come to your site and leave without doing anything, then you are stuck in the water, because they’re not going to consume your content.

Avatar

An avatar is a snapshot of your visitors or ideal customers.

Who is your ideal customer? You have to make a snapshot of them. In the old days, we would do this with an SRDS, which is a standard rates and data service. And this was basically a place where we could buy lists of people who did x.

When it comes to online stuff, we still have to ask ourselves this question.

I’ve found that for my affiliate marketing business, it’s usually someone between the ages of 40 and 60 that’s looking to supplement income.

Now, recently we’ve branched out and we’ve gotten a lot younger crowd, which I like. It’s kid of cool to have a diverse crowd. But once you know your crowd, it’s very important to remember them.

Because 40 to 60-year-olds talk differently than 30 to 40-year-olds, or 20 to 30-year-olds.

You have to build your avatar about who you want.

Direct response marketing is about cutting out the waste. Coca-cola, Ford, Dodge, all these companies waste a shit ton of money on their marketing. They waste so much money it’s not even funny. Now, they can afford to, because they sell a shit ton of stuff.

But you and I can’t afford to do that. We can’t afford to waste money on marketing, we can’t afford to waste clicks, or emails. That’s what direct response marketing is about.

We have to focus on that, and we do that by finding our customer avatar, the people that we want to reach. The people that are going to buy what we have to offer.

Back end

Back end is how much money you make off the lead or sale.

If I sell something at the end of a call, the idea isn’t just to get people to get the offer.

The offer itself might not make me much money, but the idea is for you guys to eventually buy more stuff.

Because I know that once you buy my offer and join me, you’ll love what I have and you’ll want to learn more.

So you have to look at how much you’re going to make off a lead or sale. Then you can use that to figure out how much you want to spend to get that lead or sale.

For example, if I generate 100 mail opt ins, and I sell affiliate offers that can make me $4,000 a year, that means I’m able to make an average of $40 per year, per subscriber.

If you knew you were making $40 per year, per subscriber, how many subscribers would you buy? How much would you spend if you knew you could make $40 per subscriber?

$40 over 12 months would mean you’re making $3.33 per month, per subscriber, so maybe you would spend $20 or so to get a subscriber. In that instance, you know you’d be making a profit.

Benefits vs. features

Benefits tell someone why they should have a product, and features describe what a product has.

We don’t want to sell features, we want to sell benefits. What’s an example of a feature? A car might have a feature of going 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5 seconds.

That’s a feature, but can we translate that into a benefit? The benefit is that the car is going to make you look good, make you look hot. That’s why people by fancy sports cars, because they want to look good in them. They want to impress other people.

People don’t buy sports cars because of the features, but because of the benefits.

So we don’t want to sell features, we want to sell benefits. There are different types of benefits we can focus on: flat, emotional, and practical.

A flat benefit is a benefit with no emotional appeal. An emotional benefit appeals to emotions.

Practical benefits don’t sell as well as emotional ones. They’re more like flat benefits.

You have to appeal to emotions. What makes people think. What keeps people up at night. People buy things based on emotion.

Break even

Break even is the point where you get your money back.

Related to this is the CTO, which is contribution to overhead. This is basically all of your costs, all of your expenses. Then, what you’re left over with is all your profit.

Copy / Copywriting

Copy is what your visitors will read. Copywriting is creating the copy.

Your landing page has words on it, so that’s your landing page copy. Your sales page has words or a video on it, so that’s your sales page copy.

The key to writing good copy is to know your avatar. Know who you’re talking to, and know their hot buttons. Another tip is to be specific.

When it comes to copywriting, there are several parts.

First is the headline, which is what people will read first. The goal of the headline is to get people to read your next sentence.

Then you have the subhead, which is the copy that comes right after the heading. The goal of this is to lead people into the body. The body is the bulk of your copy.

When you write copy, remember that people skim, rather than read, your content. People are skimming your copy. They’re not reading every single part of your copy.

Call to action

A call to action is asking for an action to happen.

It could be asking for a sale, a lead, whatever the action is.

This is the action you’re going to get paid on. If it’s a download, then you’d tell people, “Download this.”

A lot of people waffle it when it comes to call to action. They sell from their heels. But you have to make your call to action really clear and concise. You don’t want to confuse people.

In my case, there is nothing wrong with me doing a webinar where I teach a lot of value, and then tell people to go to my site and sign up to learn more.

If you don’t have a call to action on your site, you’re not going to sell a damn thing.

Close

A close is where you close the sale.

How are you ending your content? This is the wrapping up your marketing. It’s the whole reason your doing your content.

Cold vs. warm

Cold traffic doesn’t know you, and warm traffic does know you.

If you have videos on YouTube and tell people to go to your site, then by the time they get to your site, they’ll already know who you are. That’s warm traffic. If you just put an ad on Google and lead people to your site, then they don’t know who you are, and that’s cold traffic.

Warm traffic is always going to convert better, which is why you make money on your mailing list.

Warm traffic could be from someone else, like if you get an endorsement, or you get an affiliate to promote something.

Control

A control is the starting point of your ad or content.

I might write an ad that says, “Download Free Bible Verses.” Let’s say that control got a 1% CTR (click-through rate). Now what we do is try to make variations to beat the control.

So, I could make a new ad that says, “Free Bible Study Tools.” Maybe that one gets a 3% CTR. If my variation kicks ass and gets 3%, this will become the new control. Now I might try to beat this one too, or maybe I’m just happy with it and I leave it.

On your site, your control would be a landing page or squeeze page. Maybe you test a squeeze page, and you get 10% of the people to opt in.

Then you do a new one, where your squeeze page offers a free report and has a video on it.

Maybe that one gets you a 30% opt in rate. You might make that squeeze page your new control.

Conversion

Conversion is someone doing the action.

So if you’re getting paid on a download, the conversion would be when people actually download your offer.

If you’re paid on a lead, the conversion would be when you get a lead. If you’re paid on a sale, the conversion would be the sale.

Demographic

A demographic is who you have.

This is a lot like your avatar. Your avatar is who you want, but the demographic is who you’re able to get.

Email list

An email list is a list of people who want to hear more.

With your email list, you can follow up on people with other ads and offers.

Guarantee

A guarantee is when you say, “If you get x, you’re going to get y.”

Here’s is my own guarantee: “I guarantee after going through my direct response trainings for just $97, you will learn exactly what you need, so you can write ads that make money, starting today.

Yes, this skill can be used the same day you learn it to profit big time. (My record was $3,000 in 13 minutes using these tactics.)”

I find that the guarantee can be powerful if you use why people are there in the first place.

Information marketing

Information marketing is writing content with the goal of doing something.

For example, the news gives content to convert you to their views.

They don’t want you to think, they just want you to believe what they believe. So they present information and narratives in a way that only shows what you want to see.

Now, you can do this ethically. You don’t have to be like sleezy news outlets. You can do this in a way that helps people.

Integrated Marketing

Integrated Marketing is piggybacking off of other marketing.

This could be providing a free report, and having something in that report where you’re integrating your offer into it. Or may you’re integrating something in someone else’s sales process.

Integrated marketing is really important. You can integrate in all kinds of things, and you could make a lot of money with it.

Landing page

A landing page is the page your visitor lands on.

A landing page could be a sales page, it could be a squeeze page, an opt in page, anything. It just happens to be the page someone lands on.

When I go to Google and go to their main Google search page, that’s a landing page. When I go to Yahoo, that’s their landing page. When I go to Amazon, that’s their landing page.

I can make other landing pages if I want, but the landing page by definition is the page that I’m sending people to from my ad, or my search engine marketing, or whatever it may be.

Limited-time offer

A limited-time offer is an offer that is only available for a limited time.

An example would be an offer that’s only available for the duration of a call. Or it could be a report that’s only available for the next 48 hours. This will often increase the amount of people that signs up for something.

Social proof

Social proof is providing social information about customers in order to encourage conversion.

An example would be to say, “The last people who were on my webinar loved it.”

Or, “The last 100 people that went through my training got this result.”

This is about using the power of other people doing stuff. Because let’s face it: People are like herds. They follow the crowds.

Remember that we don’t use social proof to manipulate people, we use it to help them. But knowing that people think differently in groups versus individuals is important for marketing as well.

Market

A market is the group of people you’re going after.

This is a lot like your demographic. Who are you reaching? Are they retired people? Are they divorced people? Are they married people? Are they people looking to lose weight? Who’s your target market?

Niche market

A niche market is a much more targeted market.

This is different from just a market. A market might be weight loss, but you might not know much about these people, other than the fact that they want to lose weight. It’s pretty generic.

A niche market would be people who want to lose 20 pounds in a week. This is much more specific. It’s not just about the competition. It’s about having the right person. If you don’t have the right person, you’re not going to make any money.

Offer

An offer is what you’re promoting to your customers.

An example of an offer would be getting pizza in 30 minutes or it’s free. Another offer would be taking $100 off a first order or something.

Opt in

An opt in is when someone enters their name and email for more information.

It’s someone opting into your marketing.

Personalization

Personalization is when you can make something more personal.

This could be calling someone by their first name in an email, or providing separate links for offers. Let’s say I have a site and I get people that want to lose weight. I ask them, “Do you want to lose 10 pounds, 30 pounds, or 50 pounds?”

When they click on 10 pounds, I can take them to a special page about losing 10 pounds. When they say 30, I could take them to a special page about losing 30 pounds. And so on and so forth.

Pre-population

Pre-population is having information entered onto a page automatically.

For example, I could have an opt in page where I get someone to opt in successfully.

Then on the next page, I could have a form with the email address or something else already populated in there, already displayed on the page. This can really boost conversion.

Persuasion

Persuasion is the art of getting people to take action.

You want to persuade people to a point of view. You want to persuade them to do what you want, to buy something, click something, fill out a form, whatever it is.

Positioning

Positioning is selling in a different way.

How are you going to position your product? Maybe people want something but they don’t know it’s a solution to a certain problem. Your job is to find the problems, and then give the solutions. This is how you’re positioning yourself in the marketplace.

Profits

Profits are all the money that is left over after advertising and other expenses.

Qualified prospects

A qualified prospect is someone who has the desire and means to buy your stuff.

If you are marketing high mortgages that are a million dollars or more, and you’re marketing to people who make $2,000 a month, it’s probably not going to work.

They might have the desire, but they don’t have the means to buy your stuff. If you don’t have both, it won’t work.

Reason-why copy

Reason-why copy is giving people a reason why they should do something.

For example, you should get my direct response training because you will learn the same skill responsible for making me over $10 million on the internet.

Squeeze page

A squeeze page is a page designed to get subscribers from your traffic.

This is the same thing as an opt in page. You want people to subscribe or opt in. The squeeze page is designed to squeeze out the people who want more information.

Short copy vs. long copy

Short copy is writing that is short, while long copy is longer.

Short copy would be a one-page sales letter, or a five-page sales letter. Long copy would be a 40-page sales letter. There is a big debate in copywriting as to which is better.

The one that’s better is whichever one that gets the point across.

You can test out copy out to be short at first, and if it doesn’t work, you can lengthen it up a bit. You have to roll with your market and see what sticks.

Remember that content isn’t king. Ads aren’t kind. Your market is king. You market is the determining factor. They’ll speak. They’ll tell you what they want and what they don’t.

Response rate

A response rate is the number of people who respond out of your total reach.

Let’s say I set up an ad on Facebook, and 100 people view my ad, and only one person responds. That’s a 1% response rate.

You take your total reach, the total amount of traffic to your site, and look at how many people actually respond, click, buy, download, whatever it is you want them to do.

Return on investment

Return on investment is the amount of money made from an investment.

If I spend $100 on traffic, and I make $1,000, that’s a thousand-dollar return.

Special report / Freebie / Info giveaway

A special report is a report you give someone. A freebie is something else you can give people. An info giveaway is usually done to get people to subscribe.

A freebie could be a list of links, a video, a download, a PDF, or something like that. Info giveaways are your bait.

Swipe file

A swipe file is a collection of good ads.

These are ads that you can use and glean from. You never copy them, just use them to glean from. Every marketer should have a swipe file.

USP

A USP is a unique selling proposition.

If you have your own product, or you’re doing affiliate products, how are you going to position yourself as unique? How are you going to differentiate yourself from the market? That’s your selling proposition.

For you guys, it might just be the content on your site, if you don’t have your own product.

But what’s going to make your site stand out? What’s going to be different? Why is your information different from the other ten people on Google?

Why is your video different from the other thousands of videos I can watch about this topic?

When you have that unique selling proposition, or that unique point, you’re going to have people flocking to you to get what they need and what you have for them.
